Clear crystal glass drops are set in tiers around a rounded opal white glass diffuser, held in a polished chrome frame that sits close to the ceiling. Light passes twice: once softened through the opal glass, once caught and scattered by the crystal, so the effect is bright without being harsh. Three E27 lamps sit behind the diffuser, and the round body measures 40.5cm across, which gives it presence on a ceiling without the drop of a chandelier.

We reach for this in hallways, landings and bedrooms where a hanging fitting would sit too low over a doorway or a bed, and it works well in a dining room with a lower ceiling where you still want a little sparkle above the table. Paired with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, the output can be taken down for evenings; neither the dimmer nor the lamps come with it. Chrome and crystal sit comfortably alongside mirrored furniture, glass and pale paint, and the neutral palette means it does not fight with existing brassware or ironmongery.

The frame and ceiling plate are finished in polished chrome, the crystal is clear cut glass and the central shade is opal white glass. Crystal picks up dust more readily than a plain shade, so an occasional going over with a dry microfibre cloth, working around the drops rather than pulling at them, keeps the reflections clean; leave it to cool after use before you handle anything. Keep it to rooms that stay dry, as bathrooms and covered porches need a fitting rated for damp. It carries a one year warranty. How far does it hang below the ceiling?

The overall height is 340mm, so it sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging on a rod or chain. That makes it a sensible choice for ceilings under about 2.4m.

Which lamps should I use?

It takes three E27 lamps up to 20W each, and LED candle (C35) lamps are the recommended choice. Lamps are not supplied.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is included.

What are the crystals made of?

Clear cut crystal glass, with an opal white glass diffuser at the centre. Both are glass rather than acrylic, which is why the fitting weighs 2.6kg.

How do I clean the crystal?

A dry microfibre cloth is enough for dust. For fingermarks, a slightly damp cloth on the glass followed by a dry one avoids water spotting; nothing abrasive on the chrome.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms only.
