Description

The SARA is a recessed LED wallwasher with selectable power output (30W, 35W or 40W), selectable colour temperature (3000K, 4000K or 5000K) and DALI2 control gear for integration into room or building management systems. The fitting tilts up to 60 degrees within its housing, allowing light to be directed at vertical surfaces, gallery walls, retail displays or signage from a recessed ceiling position.

Designed for commercial spaces where lighting needs change over time or across different zones, the tri-wattage and tri-CCT settings are configured via DIP switches on the driver before installation, so a single SKU can serve multiple applications without requiring different stock. The DALI2 protocol connects to addressable lighting control systems, allowing the fitting to be dimmed, grouped and scheduled via networked controllers. The 80-degree beam angle combined with the tilt mechanism gives asymmetric distribution suitable for washing walls from 600-900mm out from the surface.

The die-cast aluminium housing carries a white powder-coated finish and requires a 225 x 127mm rectangular cutout with a minimum 145mm ceiling void depth. The driver is housed within the body and connects via plug-and-play terminals for faster installation across multi-fitting projects. The fitting is rated IP20 for dry internal environments and carries Class II insulation. An optional emergency conversion kit (EMKIT2) can be retrofitted to enable 3-hour emergency lighting operation where required by building regulations. Knightsbridge provides a 5-year warranty on the SARA range.

How is the wattage and colour temperature selected?

Both are set via DIP switches on the driver unit before installation. The fitting supports three wattage settings (30W, 35W or 40W) and three colour temperatures (3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, 5000K cool white). Once configured, the settings remain fixed unless the driver is accessed and reconfigured.

What is DALI2 and why is it useful?

DALI2 (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is a protocol that allows the fitting to be controlled via a building management system. Each fitting can be individually addressed, dimmed, grouped and scheduled from a central controller. This is common in commercial projects where lighting scenes need to change throughout the day or across different zones.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

A minimum 145mm void is required to accommodate the housing and driver assembly. The rectangular cutout measures 225 x 127mm. The fitting projects 92mm into the void once installed.

Can it be used for emergency lighting?

Yes. Knightsbridge offers an emergency conversion kit (EMKIT2, sold separately) that retrofits into the SARA housing to enable 3-hour emergency operation. This is often required in commercial buildings to comply with UK fire safety regulations.
