Description

The Sapphire is a 400mm flush ceiling light with a circular clear glass diffuser worked into a smooth plate and a chrome metal trim. The glass has an internal layer of fine grit that gives the surface texture and depth, diffusing light from three E27 bulbs (sold separately) across the ceiling rather than creating direct glare or visible bulb points.

Designed for rooms with standard or low ceiling heights where a pendant would hang too low, the Sapphire fits flush to the ceiling with minimal projection. The 400mm diameter suits entrance halls, bedrooms, and kitchens where general ambient light is needed without the bulk of a traditional ceiling rose or pendant fitting. The fitting is dimmable when paired with compatible dimmer switches and dimmable E27 bulbs.

The chrome trim provides a clean metallic edge to the glass plate and conceals the fixing points, while the textured interior of the glass softens the light output and hides dust or minor marks that would show clearly on plain smooth glass. The three-bulb configuration distributes light more evenly across the ceiling than single-bulb flush fittings, reducing dark corners in square or rectangular rooms. Ideal Lux backs the fitting with a 5-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Sapphire take?

The fitting takes three E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for general room lighting. The maximum wattage per bulb depends on the specific bulb type — LED bulbs typically run cooler and allow higher lumen output within safe thermal limits.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, the fitting is dimmable when used with dimmable E27 bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. LED bulbs require an LED-compatible dimmer to avoid flicker or buzzing.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

How is the glass cleaned?

The textured interior surface of the glass hides dust better than smooth glass, but periodic cleaning is still needed. Switch off the power, allow the bulbs to cool, remove the glass diffuser (typically held by a central chrome nut or clip), and wipe with a dry microfibre cloth. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with water is acceptable — avoid sprays or chemical cleaners that may leave residue in the textured surface.
