Description

A square face 9cm across, finished in matt white, with a shallow body behind it that sits close to the ceiling line. The LED is built in and draws 6W, giving a warm white light with a broad spread rather than a narrow spot, so a run of them washes a ceiling fairly evenly instead of dotting it with bright pools. The driver comes with it. There is no dimming, so it is designed to work from an ordinary switch.

Hallways, landings and utility rooms are the obvious homes for it, and it earns its place in a run over a kitchen worktop or across the ceiling of a home office. The warm tone keeps the light kind on white paint and pale timber, and the 80mm aperture means the visible trim stays small. We suggest it where a pendant or a surface fitting would take up too much room in the eye, and where a low ceiling wants light that keeps out of the way. Keep it to dry indoor ceilings, well clear of shower and bath zones.

The matt white face reads quietly against a white ceiling and reflects very little, which is much of the point of a slim downlight. Because it sits almost level with the plaster it gathers little dust, and an occasional pass with a soft cloth, power off at the switch first, is all it asks; no polish, no solvents. It carries a three year warranty. If you want the same matt white look on show rather than set into the ceiling, the wider Saona range runs to surface flush fittings in both round and square shapes, several sizes, and in warm or cool white, which makes it straightforward to keep one family of fittings through a flat or a house.
