Description

A round recessed downlight with a very shallow body and a frosted acrylic face, held in a matt white rim that sits quietly against a pale ceiling. The integrated LED gives 1620 lumens at 4000K, a cool white that reads clean and crisp, and the light leaves the diffuser as a broad wash rather than a tight beam. The driver is supplied with it. It is not dimmable, so it runs from a plain switch.

We reach for this one where a slim, quiet fitting is wanted overhead: kitchens, utility rooms, hallways, landings, home offices and cloakrooms. The wide spread suits general ambient light, so a run of them along a hallway or over a kitchen ceiling gives even brightness with no hard scalloping down the walls. Cool white keeps worktops, tiles and paperwork looking true, which is why we tend to steer it towards working rooms and away from bedrooms and snugs. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; it is not made for shower zones, porches or anywhere it will meet weather.

The finish is matt white throughout, with the frosted acrylic diffuser doing the softening so the diodes are not read directly. Cleaning is a job for a dry microfibre across the acrylic once the fitting is off and cold; if kitchen film has settled, a cloth wrung out in warm soapy water will shift it, while anything abrasive will dull the face for good. It carries a three year warranty. The same Saona look runs through surface flush fittings in round and square shapes, across a spread of sizes and in a warmer white as well, so one family of shapes can carry a whole floor. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to buy.
