Description

Saona is a shallow round downlight with a frosted acrylic face set in a matt white trim, measuring 14.5cm across. The acrylic softens the integrated LED behind it, so you get an even white disc of light rather than a bright point, and the wide spread means fewer dark patches between fittings. Output is 1080 lumens at 4000K, a crisp cool white that keeps worktops and paperwork looking clean. The driver comes with it, and the fitting is not dimmable, so it works from an ordinary switch.

We reach for this where a ceiling is low and a deeper fitting would feel heavy overhead. It suits kitchens, hallways, landings, utility rooms and home offices, and it works in a run across a larger room where the light wants to be flat and generous. The cool white reads best in working rooms; in a sitting room or bedroom we would usually go warmer. It is meant for dry rooms indoors, so keep it clear of shower zones and anywhere open to the weather.

Construction is simple: a matt white frame around a frosted acrylic diffuser, with the LED and its driver supplied together. The matt face sits quietly against white paint and does not flash back at you the way a gloss trim can. To clean, switch off at the wall and run a dry microfibre cloth over the acrylic; a cloth barely damped with warm water shifts kitchen film, and nothing abrasive goes near it. It carries a three year warranty. The wider Saona range also runs to surface flush fittings in round and square faces across several sizes, if you want the same look sitting on the ceiling. The LED is built in, so there are no lamps to buy.
