Description

A wall light, 25cm tall, in antique silver. At 25cm wide it is about the width of a laptop. A wall light puts illumination at head height without using a table or a floor, which is why it suits a hallway, a stairwell or the side of a bed better than any lamp.

Polished cool metals show every fingerprint, which is the trade for the brightness. A brushed version of the same finish hides them almost entirely and still catches the light along the grain. Brass warms a room in a way chrome and steel do not, because it reflects light yellow rather than white. Unlacquered, it will darken slowly and unevenly with handling, which most people come to prefer.

It takes 2 E14 screw-fit bulbs up to 6-9W LED. E14 is the commonest fitting on any supermarket shelf, so replacements are never a hunt. It is dimmable, so the level is set at the wall rather than fixed at the bulb. The head adjusts, so you can aim the light at a book rather than a ceiling. A Candle shaped bulb, which is the word to look for on the box.

The light you actually see is the light that comes THROUGH the shade, not the light from the bulb. That is why the same bulb reads warm behind a cream fabric and cold behind a white one. Dust is the whole of the maintenance and it matters more than it sounds: an even film of dust on a shade dims a room by more than most people would guess, and a soft brush restores it in a minute.
