Description

The Sally is an 84mm square recessed LED downlight with a black die-cast aluminium trim and an integrated 11W COB LED producing 3000K warm white light. The downlight is designed for fixed installation into plasterboard or panel ceilings, sitting flush with the ceiling surface once the trim is in place. The IP40 rating provides protection against solid objects over 1mm, making it suitable for dry indoor environments.

Designed for residential living rooms, hallways, bedrooms and commercial spaces where discrete ceiling lighting is required, the Sally delivers focused downward light from a compact 84mm square aperture. The black trim provides a defined contrast against white or light-coloured ceilings, or blends into dark ceiling finishes. The recessed design keeps the light source hidden from direct view, reducing glare at normal eye level. Installation requires a ceiling void depth sufficient to accommodate the body behind the trim.

The COB (chip-on-board) LED configuration delivers consistent light output across the 11W power draw without visible individual diodes or hotspots. The 3000K colour temperature sits in the warm white range, producing light that reads as neutral to slightly warm rather than the cooler 4000K+ often found in commercial downlights. The die-cast aluminium construction dissipates heat efficiently, extending the operational life of the integrated LED. The fitting is non-dimmable and runs on 230V mains.

Is the Sally dimmable?

No. The integrated 11W LED is not compatible with dimmer switches and must run on full mains voltage at all times.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

The Sally requires a ceiling void behind the plasterboard or panel to accommodate the LED driver and heat dissipation assembly. Typical installation needs at least 100mm clearance above the ceiling surface, though the exact depth depends on insulation and ventilation around the fitting. Check the installation guide for the specific model before cutting ceiling apertures.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP40 rating provides protection against solid objects over 1mm but offers no protection against water ingress. It is not rated for use in bathroom zones where moisture is present. For bathrooms, specify a downlight with IP44 or higher.

What is COB LED technology?

COB (chip-on-board) means multiple LED chips are mounted directly onto a single circuit board and covered with a phosphor coating. This produces a single uniform light source rather than multiple visible diodes, reducing hotspots and giving more consistent light output across the beam.
