Description
The Royal Mile is an 80cm-tall outdoor pedestal light built from die-cast aluminium with a grey powder-coated finish and an integrated 13W 3000K LED. The rectangular frame design measures 15.1cm square at the base, with vertical corner posts enclosing the central light source and diffuser panels on all four faces. The IP65 rating protects internal components from dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making it suitable for exposed garden paths, driveways, patios and commercial forecourts.
Designed for pathway and boundary lighting in residential gardens, hotels, apartment complexes and office parks, the 80cm height positions the light at mid-leg level, directing the 3000K warm white output downward and outward across paving or gravel without causing glare at eye level. The integrated driver sits inside the base and connects to standard 100-240V AC mains wiring, removing the need for external control gear. The rectangular footprint is stable on hard landscaping and can be surface-mounted onto concrete or paving with fixings through the base plate.
The grey powder coat is applied over the aluminium body to resist UV fade, salt corrosion in coastal locations, and general weathering from rain and temperature cycling. The four diffuser panels distribute light evenly in all directions, avoiding the single-sided output of wall-mounted luminaires and reducing the number of fittings needed to achieve continuous path lighting. The 13W LED output provides functional illumination without the energy draw of halogen or metal halide equivalents previously used in this application.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP65 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP65 means the fitting is fully dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. It can withstand rain, snow, hose cleaning and other typical outdoor exposure without water entering the internal components. It is not submersible (that would require IP67 or IP68) but handles all normal UK weather conditions.
How is the pedestal light installed?
The Royal Mile is surface-mounted through the base plate onto concrete, paving slabs or other hard landscaping. The integrated driver inside the base connects to mains wiring run underground in suitable conduit. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with current Part P Building Regulations and BS 7671 wiring standards.
Can the LED be replaced if it fails?
The LED is integrated into the fitting and is not user-replaceable. The LED is rated for approximately 25,000-30,000 hours of operation, which translates to around 10-15 years of typical evening-only use. The fitting carries a 3-year manufacturer warranty.
What spacing is recommended for pathway lighting?
For continuous pathway illumination, space the Royal Mile pedestals 3-4 metres apart on one side of the path, or 5-6 metres apart if alternating between both sides. Exact spacing depends on path width and surrounding ambient light levels.
