Description
This moving gear mantel clock takes the round, twin bell shape of an old-fashioned alarm clock and opens up its face to put its gears on show. The case is black, with a curved handle arching between two domed bells and a small knob set on top, and it rests on a pair of slim, splayed feet. Across the dark dial, long gold baton markers run out towards the rim, while an inner ring of gold numerals frames the gold hands. Below the centre, a second, smaller dial holds more moving gears, giving the face real depth. It stands 38.5cm tall, 30.5cm wide and 8cm deep.
With its own feet, it needs no wall and no fixings: set it on a mantelpiece, a deep shelf, a sideboard or a desk, where its slim 8cm depth keeps it tidy against the wall behind. The black case sits comfortably beside dark wood and leather in a study or living room, and the gold detail on the dial picks up brass or gilt pieces nearby. It suits an industrial or vintage scheme, yet looks just as at home in a plain, modern room that wants one bold piece on the shelf. It makes a thoughtful gift, too.
It runs on two AA batteries, which fit into the back of the case, so there is no cable to trail and it can sit wherever it looks best rather than near a socket. The case is black all round, including the back, so it looks tidy from any angle on an open shelf. To keep it looking its best, dust the case, bells and face with a soft dry cloth, and keep sprays and polish away from the dial. Set it off centre on the mantelpiece with a low stack of books or a candlestick beside it, and let those gears draw the eye.

Frequently Asked
How big is this mantel clock?
It stands 38.5cm tall, 30.5cm wide and 8cm deep, so it sits on a mantelpiece, sideboard or deeper shelf without crowding it.
What batteries does the clock need?
It runs on two AA batteries, which fit into the back of the case, so there is no cable or plug to find a place for.
Does it stand or hang on the wall?
It is a freestanding mantel clock that rests on two slim, splayed feet, ready to sit on a mantelpiece, shelf, sideboard or desk.
What colour is the clock?
The case, handle and bells are black, and the dark dial carries gold baton markers, gold numerals, gold hands and gold-toned gears.
Are the gears on the face visible?
Yes. Gears sit at the centre of the dial and more gears fill a smaller dial below it, all on show at the front.
How should I look after it?
Dust the case, bells and face with a soft dry cloth, and keep sprays and polish away from the dial to keep it looking its best.
