Roots Pendant Light 25cm - Black with Beige Wooden Oval Shade

The Roots is a 25.5cm-diameter pendant light built around an oval wooden shade cut from 5-layer plywood in a natural beige finish. The shade is constructed from curved vertical slats that fan out from a narrow top aperture to a wider base, creating an onion-bulb profile. A single E27 bulb fitting sits inside the cage, casting light through the gaps between the slats and out through the open top and bottom. The ceiling canopy and cable are finished in matt black metal.

Designed for dining tables, breakfast bars and bedside positions, the Roots suits kitchens, dining rooms and bedroom installations with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 3.5m. The adjustable black fabric cable allows the drop to be set anywhere from 41.5cm to 331.5cm during installation, giving flexibility to position the pendant 60-80cm above a table surface or higher as ambient lighting. The IP20 rating confines the fitting to dry indoor spaces only.

The 5-layer plywood construction gives the shade a 3-5mm thickness, sufficient to hold the curved form without sagging but thin enough to let some light pass through the wood grain when lit. The natural beige tone of the plywood pairs with Scandinavian, mid-century and contemporary interiors, while the slatted construction adds texture to minimalist spaces. The special lacquer coating protects the wood from dust absorption and minor handling marks without altering the grain visibility or adding gloss.

The Roots accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 40W. A warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K gives soft ambient light and shows the wood grain clearly when lit. The shade weighs approximately 800g including the cable and canopy, fitting standard UK ceiling roses and joist-mounted fixings.

What bulb does it take?

The Roots takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient lighting that shows the wood grain clearly when lit.

Can the drop height be adjusted?

Yes. The black fabric cable is adjustable between 41.5cm and 331.5cm during installation, allowing the pendant to be positioned at the correct height above a dining table, breakfast bar or bedside surface depending on your ceiling height.

Is the wooden shade sealed or treated?

The plywood shade is coated with a protective lacquer that guards against dust absorption and minor handling marks without adding gloss or obscuring the wood grain. The coating is not waterproof — the IP20 rating limits the fitting to dry indoor spaces only.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the Roots is not protected against moisture and must be installed in dry indoor spaces only. It is not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms, kitchens directly above hobs or sinks, or outdoor use.
