Description
The Riley is a 230mm rectangular wall light with an aged brass backplate and a box-shaped faux silk shade in ivory. The shade measures 170mm wide and projects 128mm from the wall, enclosing a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) that casts diffused light through the fabric in both directions, up and down the wall.
Designed for hallways, bedrooms and reading nooks where a compact wall light provides ambient fill without occupying floor or table space, the Riley suits rooms where ceiling fittings are impractical or where side lighting is needed to balance overhead sources. The 170mm width fits comfortably above bedside tables, either side of a mirror, or in narrower hallway sections between doorways. The aged brass finish shows a darker, oxidised patina compared to polished brass, giving a warmer tone that pairs with traditional, mid-century and transitional interiors.
The faux silk shade diffuses the bulb fully, preventing glare while allowing the E27 lamp inside to deliver up to 60W of output. The fabric texture is visible when the light is off, showing a fine vertical ribbing that adds depth to the ivory tone. The square-edged shade and flat backplate give the fitting a geometric profile that contrasts with curved or organic wall shapes, making it a suitable accent for both period and contemporary settings.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Riley take?
The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient bedroom or hallway lighting.
How is the light wired and fitted?
The aged brass backplate mounts to a standard UK wall box or ceiling rose on a wall surface. The wiring connects behind the backplate before the shade is fitted. An electrician is recommended for safe installation.
Does the shade need cleaning?
The faux silk shade can attract dust over time. Wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth or use a low-power vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Avoid water or chemical cleaners as they may stain the fabric.
Can the Riley be used in a bathroom?
The fitting carries no IP rating and is designed for dry indoor use only. It is not suitable for bathrooms unless installed well away from water sources in Zone 3 or outside bathroom zones entirely.
