Description

The Riley is a 33cm spherical pendant light built around a cognac-tinted glass globe held between antique brass upper and lower mounts. The lower mount is hinged, allowing the glass ball to be opened for bulb access without removing the entire fitting from the ceiling. A single E27 bulb sits inside the globe (sold separately, up to 60W), and the cognac glass filters the light output into a warm amber glow.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and entrance halls, the Riley works in spaces with ceiling heights of 2.5m or above where a 700-1700mm drop can be accommodated. The 330mm diameter gives the pendant a solid presence over a 1.2-1.6m dining table or a 900mm-wide island without overwhelming the space. The antique brass finish is a mid-tone aged brass with visible darkening in recesses, contrasting with the warm cognac tone of the glass.

The spherical glass shade is mouth-blown, so slight tonal variation and tiny air bubbles within the glass are characteristic of the production method. The hinged lower frame uses a sprung brass catch, allowing the bottom half to swing open for re-lamping without needing tools or removing the pendant from the chain. The 3.5kg combined weight of glass and brass gives the fitting a substantial feel once hung, and the chain drop is adjustable on installation between 700mm and 1700mm depending on ceiling height and application.

What bulb does the Riley take?

The pendant takes one E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a decorative filament LED bulb in warm white (2200K-2700K) to complement the cognac glass tone.

Is the Riley dimmable?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. LED bulbs require an LED-rated trailing-edge or universal dimmer. Check the bulb packaging for dimmer compatibility before purchasing.

How is the bulb replaced?

The lower brass mount is hinged and held closed by a sprung catch. Release the catch and the bottom half of the frame swings open, allowing the glass globe to tilt down for bulb access. No tools are needed and the pendant does not need to be removed from the ceiling.

What ceiling height does it need?

The drop is adjustable between 700mm and 1700mm on installation. For a dining table the pendant typically sits 700-800mm above the surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.5m or above. Lower ceilings can accommodate the Riley if the chain is shortened to the 700mm minimum.
