Description

The Rigby is a 254mm single pendant light combining a perforated mesh shade with a cast bronze canopy and aged brass socket housing. The mesh shade casts textured light patterns when lit, while the exposed E27 socket and decorative cast brass cover nod to early-20th-century American industrial lighting. The fitting takes one E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately).

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and entrance halls, the Rigby works best at heights between 700-900mm above a worktop or table surface, which requires a ceiling height of 2.4m or above when using the full 947mm drop. The drop is adjustable on installation via the cable run concealed within the black fabric flex. The 254mm shade diameter suits tables and islands up to 1.8m long, either as a single fitting or paired in a row of two or three for longer runs.

The bronze finish on the canopy and flex contrasts with the aged brass socket housing, giving the fitting a two-tone appearance that sits comfortably in industrial, farmhouse and transitional interiors. The mesh shade is stamped from sheet metal with a regular perforation pattern, allowing light to escape through the sides and casting defined shadows onto nearby walls and ceilings when fitted with a clear filament bulb. The cast brass socket cover adds weight and presence without overwhelming smaller rooms.

What bulb works best with the Rigby?

The exposed E27 socket and mesh shade are designed to show the bulb, so a decorative filament LED (squirrel-cage, globe or Edison style) in warm white (2200K-2700K) gives the most authentic look. The fitting accepts any E27 bulb up to 60W, including standard LED, halogen or incandescent types.

Can the drop height be adjusted after installation?

The drop is adjustable on installation by shortening or lengthening the cable run through the ceiling rose. Once the fitting is installed and the cable is secured, changing the drop requires removing the canopy and re-threading the cable, which is not a quick adjustment.

How does the mesh shade affect the light output?

The perforated mesh allows light to escape through the sides and bottom of the shade, casting textured patterns onto nearby surfaces. The mesh reduces direct downward light compared to a clear glass shade, making this better suited to ambient or accent lighting rather than high-output task lighting.
