Description

This ribbed ceramic table lamp takes the shape of a closed flower bud, full and rounded at the base and narrowing to a small opening at the top. Fine vertical ribs run from top to bottom, gathering into soft folds around the lower curve like petals still wrapped tight. It comes in white with a matt finish, is made from ceramic and plastic, and stands 26cm tall and 18cm across, a compact size that sits comfortably on a bedside table or a narrow shelf. Switched off, it is a quiet white ceramic piece; switched on, the light shows through the body and picks out every rib.

We like it anywhere a small lamp is wanted in the evening: beside the bed, on a hallway console or on a sideboard in the living room. Its plain white and gentle shape sit easily with natural wood, linen and pale walls, and it looks as much at home in a modern flat as in a cottage bedroom. It is a lamp for dry rooms indoors. As a housewarming present it makes a thoughtful choice for someone settling into a new home, useful from the very first night and easy to place in almost any room.

The lamp runs from the mains on a UK plug at 240V, so it goes straight into a standard socket, and a white switch sits on the cable, letting you turn it on and off without reaching behind furniture. The matt ceramic is simple to look after: dust it with a soft dry cloth, and if it needs more, switch it off and unplug it first, then wipe it with a slightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. For a balanced bedroom, set one on each bedside table, or wrap one up for a friend's first evening in their new place.
