Description

The Ria Medium is a wall light built around a half-rectangle ivory faux silk shade mounted on an aged brass backplate with three stacked hexagonal links forming the vertical support. The shade measures 270mm wide by 230mm high and projects 128mm from the wall, diffusing light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W). The brass finish is treated to show a warm, muted aged patina rather than bright polished brass.

Designed for hallways, living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms where wall-mounted ambient light is needed, the Ria Medium provides soft, diffused illumination without the glare of exposed bulbs. The half-rectangle shade shape sits flat against the wall with the front and sides open, directing most of the light forward and to the sides rather than onto the wall surface behind. The 474mm overall height suits wall mounting at 1.5-1.8m from floor level, positioning the shade at eye level when standing.

The three hexagonal links between the backplate and the shade give the fitting a geometric accent that contrasts with the soft, organic weave texture visible in the faux silk. The aged brass finish develops a deeper patina over time when exposed to air and handling, darkening slightly in the recesses of the hexagons while remaining lighter on the high points. The ivory shade fabric is tightly woven faux silk with a fine textured surface that hides the bulb inside while allowing warm-toned light to pass through.

The Ria Medium pairs well with the Ria Small wall light (available separately at 330mm height) when used in adjacent rooms or on either side of a doorway, creating visual continuity through repeated geometric detailing. From Elstead Lighting.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Ria Medium take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to complement the ivory shade and aged brass finish.

Can the shade be removed for cleaning?

Yes. The shade lifts off the metal frame, allowing it to be dusted with a soft brush or gently vacuumed on low power. The faux silk fabric should not be washed or spot-cleaned with liquids.

What's the difference between the Medium and Small Ria wall lights?

The Ria Medium measures 474mm high with a 270mm wide shade, while the Ria Small (available separately) measures 330mm high with a smaller shade. Both share the same hexagonal link design and aged brass finish, allowing them to be mixed in adjacent spaces.

How is the aged brass finish maintained?

The aged brass develops a natural patina over time. To maintain the current tone, wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth. To allow further darkening, leave the brass untreated. Avoid chemical brass polishes, which would strip the aged finish and return it to bright brass.
