The Redding Station is an outdoor wall lantern with a dark bronze aluminium frame shaped after early 20th-century railway station lamps. The main body stacks three stepped collars above a wide prismatic glass diffuser, suspended from a curved gooseneck arm fixed to a rectangular backplate. The E27 bulb fitting sits behind the prismatic glass, which refracts and softens light outward and downward.

Designed for front porches, patio entrances and pathway lighting, the lantern's 341mm projection clears most door frames and the 305mm-wide shade throws light across a 2-3m spread at ground level. The IP44 rating protects against rain and dust, making it suitable for exposed positions under roof overhangs or on fully exterior walls. The dark bronze finish resists corrosion from coastal salt and urban pollution better than painted steel equivalents.

The aluminium construction keeps the fitting at a manageable weight for brick and rendered wall fixing, while the stepped collar detailing gives the lantern visual weight that balances larger door surrounds. The prismatic glass pattern dates from 1920s industrial lighting and creates a honeycomb effect when the bulb is on, diffusing hotspots and reducing glare at eye level. What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for a soft porch light, or a 4000K daylight LED for pathway security lighting.

Can it be used in fully exposed positions?

The IP44 rating protects against rain from any angle and dust ingress, so the lantern can be fitted on fully exterior walls without a roof overhang. Coastal installations may require more frequent cleaning to remove salt residue from the glass.

How is the prismatic glass cleaned?

The prismatic glass can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and warm soapy water. The refractive honeycomb pattern traps dust in the grooves, so a soft brush or toothbrush helps dislodge debris before wiping.

What fixings are needed?

The backplate has two vertical keyhole slots for wall mounting. Use appropriate fixings for your wall type — typically No.10 screws with wall plugs for brick or masonry, or heavy-duty plasterboard fixings if mounting on stud walls. The lantern weighs approximately 2-3kg when fitted with a bulb.
