Description

The Rectory is a single-light wall sconce hand-forged from wrought iron with a textured black finish, a candle-style E14 socket on a raised drip tray, and a shield-shaped wall plate with visible hammer marks. The design references medieval torch holders and early domestic lighting brackets, bringing the weight and texture of hand-worked iron to wall-mounted task or accent lighting.

Designed for hallways, staircases, alcoves and dining rooms in period properties, barn conversions, country cottages and contemporary interiors with exposed timber or stone, the Rectory projects 200mm from the wall and stands 160mm tall, which positions the light source approximately 180mm above the centre of the fixing plate. This projection allows the bulb to clear wall obstructions and deliver directed light up or down a corridor when paired with a clear candle bulb. The fitting accepts any E14 bulb up to 60W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose between a flame-effect filament bulb for decorative warmth or a higher-lumen LED for functional illumination.

The wrought iron is shaped and welded by hand, which creates small variations in the surface texture, edge profile and exact curve of the arm between individual pieces. The black finish is applied to raw iron rather than polished steel, so the surface retains a slightly rough, forge-textured appearance rather than presenting as a smooth painted surface. The drip tray beneath the bulb holder is a functional detail borrowed from candlestick design, giving the fitting a grounded historical authenticity rather than a stylised approximation of period metalwork.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The Rectory takes an E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair it with a 4-6W LED candle bulb in 2700K warm white, or a flame-effect filament bulb for a period look.

Is the black finish smooth or textured?

The finish is textured. The wrought iron is forged by hand and retains visible hammer marks and surface variation from the shaping process. The black finish is applied to the raw iron rather than polished smooth, giving an authentic forge-worked appearance.

Can it be used outdoors?

No IP rating is listed in the specification, so the Rectory is designed for indoor use only. For outdoor medieval-style wall lights, see the Norlys range in the outdoor lighting section.

Does it vary between pieces?

Yes. Each fitting is hand-forged, so small variations in the curve of the arm, the exact surface texture and the edge profile of the shield plate are normal between individual units. This is characteristic of hand-worked metalwork, not a defect.
