Description

The Knightsbridge SKR3 is a recessed 13A switched socket with one USB-A and one USB-C charging port, designed to sit flush within worktops, desks, or furniture surfaces. The stainless steel lid projects just 6mm above the mounting surface when closed, concealing the socket and USB ports until needed. A hinged lid opens to reveal the 13A outlet and both USB ports, with the combined USB output delivering 5V DC 4.0A shared across both ports (max 20W total).

Installation requires a 112mm diameter cut-out and a minimum 79mm recess depth beneath the surface, making it suitable for worktops, desk panels and furniture with at least 14mm surface thickness. The unit comes with a 2m pre-fitted cable terminating in a UK 3-pin plug, allowing plug-and-play installation without hard-wiring where mains access is nearby. Typical applications include kitchen islands, home office desks, hotel bedside tables, and shared workstations in co-working spaces.

The stainless steel finish on the lid provides a neutral metallic accent that pairs with both modern and traditional kitchen and office interiors. The lid is not spring-loaded and does not carry a floor rating, so the unit is intended for horizontal surfaces where the lid can rest open without being stepped on. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor environments only.

The captive terminal design inside the unit secures the cable connection without risk of terminal screws loosening under vibration, and the earth terminal provides Class I electrical protection. The socket accepts standard UK 13A plugs, and the dual USB ports allow simultaneous charging of phones, tablets and other USB-powered devices without occupying the 13A outlet.

Does it need to be hard-wired?

No. The SKR3 comes with a 2m pre-fitted cable terminating in a UK 3-pin plug, allowing plug-and-play installation where a mains outlet is accessible nearby. Hard-wiring is possible if the plug is removed and the cable connected to a fused spur, but this must be performed by a qualified electrician.
