Description
The Ransiki is a reclining stag ornament cast in polyresin and finished in a matt black that soaks up the light rather than shining. The figure lies with its legs folded beneath its body, head raised and a tall pair of branching antlers rising high above the brow. Every surface is broken into flat geometric facets, so the stag reads as a crisp, modern shape while the eyes, ears and muzzle stay clearly picked out. It stands 30.5cm tall, 25cm long and 11.5cm wide, a comfortable size for a shelf or mantelpiece.
This is an indoor ornament, and at just 11.5cm wide it needs very little room; we like it on a mantelpiece, a bookcase shelf or the top of a sideboard. The black finish gives a strong silhouette against a pale wall, while the antlers add height to a low arrangement of candles, books or plants. It suits anyone who likes a nod to the countryside but prefers clean, contemporary lines to a traditional carved look. On its own on a console table it holds the eye, and grouped with other dark pieces it pulls a shelf together.
Polyresin is a cast resin, and it holds crisp edges and fine detail well, which is why the facets and the slender antler tips come out so cleanly defined. The matt black covers the whole figure, antlers included, giving one even colour from muzzle to tail. At 0.8KG it is light enough to lift whenever you dust or change an arrangement, so moving it from room to room is easy. Handle the antlers gently, as they are the slimmest part of the piece.
