Description
The Rando is a black outdoor wall light built around a ribbed cylindrical body that directs light both upward and downward through two E27 bulb fittings. The vertical ribbing across the 26cm aluminium cylinder creates a textured surface that breaks up reflections and adds architectural detail to the fitting, while the recessed end caps prevent direct glare from the bulbs. The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making this suitable for exposed positions on house facades, garden walls and covered porches.
Designed for architectural accent lighting on exterior walls, the Rando casts dual beams that graze the wall surface above and below the fitting, highlighting texture in brickwork, render or timber cladding. The up-down configuration provides ambient exterior lighting without spilling direct light into neighbouring properties or causing sky glow. Common installation positions include either side of front doors, flanking garage entrances, and spaced at intervals along garden perimeter walls. The 16cm projection from the wall and 9.5cm diameter suit standard masonry and timber-framed exterior walls.
The matt black powder-coated aluminium finish resists corrosion in coastal and wet climates, and the low-sheen surface avoids the reflective hotspots that gloss finishes create under direct sunlight. Each E27 fitting accepts bulbs up to 60W, allowing pairing with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W for energy efficiency or vintage-style filament bulbs for a warmer aesthetic. The dual-bulb configuration means the light output and colour temperature can be controlled independently if wired to separate circuits, though most installations wire both bulbs to a single outdoor switch.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP54 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP54 indicates the fitting is protected against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. This makes the Rando suitable for exposed exterior walls, covered porches and garden installations, but it is not waterproof for full submersion or high-pressure jets. For fully exposed coastal positions or areas with driving rain, consider positioning under an overhang or eave.
What bulbs does it take?
The Rando has two E27 (Edison screw) fittings, each rated for bulbs up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 6-10W LED bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) for energy efficiency, though vintage filament bulbs are also compatible.
How is it wired and installed?
The fitting mounts to a standard outdoor electrical back box on masonry or timber-framed walls. Both bulb fittings are typically wired to a single outdoor switch, though separate wiring to independent circuits allows control of the up and down lights separately. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
Can it be used on render or timber cladding?
Yes. The 16cm projection and standard back box mounting suit most exterior wall finishes including brick, render, timber cladding and painted masonry. The ribbed cylinder design works well with textured surfaces, as the up-down lighting highlights the wall finish rather than washing it flat.
