Description

The Randhurst is a 510mm outdoor wall lantern with a copper oxide finish over a composite frame, fitted with three E14 candle bulb sockets behind clear seeded glass panels. The lantern draws from antique gas lamp design with exposed rivets, stepped detailing and open vents at the crown, but uses modern weatherproof composite materials rather than metal to resist corrosion in coastal and high-moisture environments.

Designed for exposed exterior positions including front doors, garage entrances and covered patios, the Randhurst carries an IP44 rating allowing it to be installed in positions exposed to rain splash and windblown moisture. The seeded glass diffuses the light from the three candle bulbs without obscuring it entirely, creating a scattered glow across rendered walls and paving. The 219mm projection from the wall gives clearance to mount the lantern alongside wider door frames or over benches.

The composite construction handles temperature swings, UV exposure and salt air better than painted steel or aluminium, with no risk of rust bloom or flaking finish over time. The copper oxide finish gives a weathered patina appearance from new, so surface variations are deliberate rather than defects. The three E14 sockets accept standard candle bulbs up to 40W each (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose filament-style LEDs for a heritage look or frosted LEDs for greater output.

What bulbs does it take?

The Randhurst takes three E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs up to 40W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K for a heritage appearance, or filament-style LEDs to replicate gas lamp aesthetics.

Can it be used in fully exposed positions?

Yes. The IP44 rating allows installation in positions exposed to rain splash and windblown moisture, including open porches, garage entrances and wall-mounted positions with no overhead shelter. The composite construction resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments.

How is the copper finish maintained?

The copper oxide finish is designed to look weathered from new, so surface variations and patina are intentional. No maintenance is required. The composite material underneath does not corrode, so the appearance remains stable over time without rust or flaking.

What wall fixings are required?

The lantern mounts via a standard rear bracket suitable for masonry walls with appropriate wall plugs and screws (typically 6-8mm diameter). For timber-clad or hollow walls, use fixings rated for the weight of the fitting plus the projection load. The rear bracket should be wired to mains supply by a qualified electrician before the lantern body is fixed in place.
