Description
The Quasar is a 900mm-tall outdoor bollard light built from powder-coated die-cast aluminium in a brown finish, with a sandblasted tempered glass diffuser at the head. The single GU10 fitting accepts LED bulbs (sold separately) and directs light through the textured glass, spreading a wide cone of downward illumination suitable for pathway navigation and boundary marking.
Designed for driveways, front paths, garden perimeters and patio edges, the Quasar carries an IP43 rating that protects against solid objects over 1mm and angled water spray. This makes it suitable for UK garden use in sheltered positions where the fitting is not directly exposed to driving rain or heavy spray. The brown powder coat provides corrosion resistance and pairs naturally with brick, stone, timber and planted borders without the visual weight of black or grey finishes.
The bollard stands 900mm from ground level with a 115mm diameter head, giving a presence tall enough to be visible in planted beds or long grass but low enough not to obstruct sightlines across a garden. The transparent sandblasted glass softens the GU10 beam and prevents harsh glare at eye level when walking past the fitting. The die-cast aluminium construction gives the bollard resistance to physical impact from garden equipment and enough weight to remain stable in exposed positions.
Installation requires a weatherproof electrical connection to mains supply, typically run underground in armoured cable or conduit. The fitting accepts standard wiring through a rear cable entry and the base is designed to be concreted into position or bolted to a hard surface. The brown finish weathers subtly over time, developing a patina that blends further into natural surroundings rather than appearing as a manufactured accent.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP43 rating mean in practical terms?
IP43 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water spray at angles up to 60° from vertical. This means the Quasar is suitable for garden positions with some overhead shelter (under eaves, between plants, along covered paths) but is not rated for positions exposed to direct heavy rain or water jets from cleaning.
What bulb should I use?
The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb, sold separately. For pathway lighting most users choose a warm-white LED between 3-5W and 2700K-3000K, which provides enough ground illumination without causing glare. Higher-wattage bulbs can be used where brighter security lighting is needed.
Can it be dimmed?
Yes, the fitting is dimmable when paired with a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and a compatible outdoor dimmer switch. The dimming performance depends on the specific bulb chosen — not all GU10 LEDs dim smoothly to low levels.
How is it installed?
The bollard requires a weatherproof mains electrical connection, typically run underground in armoured cable or conduit. The base is designed to be concreted into position or bolted to a hard surface. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician to ensure weatherproofing and compliance with UK wiring regulations.
