Description

The Pyleford is a single wall light with a hammered brass shade, where the dimpled surface catches light unevenly and gives the metal a handworked look. It stands 255mm tall, spans 140mm and projects 138mm from the wall, so it sits close in and takes up very little room. One E27 lampholder takes a 10W LED bulb, and the fitting is dimmable with a suitable dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs. With no glass diffuser, the metal shade directs the light rather than spreading it, throwing it where the shade opens. It weighs 1.9kg and is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Directed light is what makes this wall sconce useful beside a bed for reading, along a hallway where you want pools of light rather than a flat wash, or beside a piece of art or a fireplace. Brass warms up a cool room, and the hammered surface keeps it from looking flat in daylight when the light is off. Dimming matters here, since an undiffused bulb is best turned down late in the evening. In a corridor the 138mm projection leaves plenty of clearance for people passing.

The shade and backplate are solid metal in a brass finish, hammered so no two hollows catch the light in quite the same way. Dust with a dry soft cloth, following the dimples rather than pressing across them, and lift marks with a barely damp cloth before drying at once; keep sprays and cream cleaners off the brass. It is a Class 2 fitting, so no earth connection is needed. The Pyleford range also includes hammered brass pendants, so the same finish can carry from a hallway wall through to the ceiling light above the stairs.
