Description

The Provence is a 370mm diameter rise and fall pendant in aged brass with a conical metal shade and a weighted pulley mechanism that allows the pendant to be raised and lowered after installation. The mechanism uses a counterweight housed in a brass cylinder on the ceiling mount, connected by a braided cord that runs through a pulley system, allowing the shade to be pulled down to 1800mm or raised to 960mm from the ceiling without tools or re-wiring.

Designed for kitchen islands, dining tables and breakfast bars where the pendant needs to be lowered for task lighting during food preparation or raised for ambient lighting when the table is not in use, the Provence gives post-installation height control without needing a fixed drop length. The conical shade directs light downward in a defined pool while the E27 fitting accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W, allowing flexibility in colour temperature and brightness. The aged brass finish shows a soft patina that reduces reflections and pairs well with both traditional and contemporary kitchens.

The rise and fall mechanism operates by pulling the shade down to the desired height, where the counterweight holds it in position until manually adjusted again. The 1693mm of cord allows a maximum drop of 1800mm, which suits ceiling heights of 2.4-3m for typical over-table positioning at 700-900mm above the surface. The aged brass finish on the shade, ceiling mount and counterweight cylinder gives a unified mid-century bistro aesthetic inspired by 1950s French café and kitchen lighting.

Frequently Asked

How does the rise and fall mechanism work?

The pendant uses a weighted pulley system with a counterweight housed in the brass cylinder on the ceiling mount. Pull the shade down to the desired height and the counterweight holds it in position. Push or pull the shade to adjust the height at any time without tools.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for dining or kitchen task lighting.

What ceiling height is needed?

The pendant suits ceiling heights of 2.4-3m for typical over-table positioning. The minimum drop of 960mm means the shade sits approximately 960mm below the ceiling at its highest position, while the maximum 1800mm drop allows it to be lowered for closer task lighting.

Can the height be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The rise and fall mechanism allows manual height adjustment at any time without re-wiring or tools. The Specification table notes "On Installation" because the maximum and minimum drop limits are set during fitting, but within those limits the shade can be raised or lowered freely.
