Description

The Presmenne LED Downlight is a round recessed ceiling light with a black plastic body 9cm across and an inner ring that tilts, so the beam can be angled towards a picture, a bedhead or a stretch of wall. The LED is integrated, drawing 4.5W and giving 450lm, and it runs on mains power at 220 to 240V with an energy class of E. Its IP rating is IP20, and that settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, well away from water and never outdoors.

Set into the ceiling, it leaves only a slim black ring on show, which looks crisp against white plaster and sits quietly in a darker ceiling. We like it in bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and landings, either as a single light or spaced in a line along a run of ceiling. The real gain is choice: each downlight offers three colour temperatures, so one fitting can give warm 2700K light in a bedroom, a neutral 4000K in a hallway or study, and a bright, cool 6500K where you read or work. That means you can buy the same downlight for every dry room in the house and still set each room to suit the way it is used.

The body is plastic, and spring clips hold it firmly in its cut-out. It needs a 6.8cm cut-out and 3cm of depth behind the ceiling, so it is worth checking the ceiling void before deciding where each light will sit. The colour temperature is chosen at the light itself, so settle on the colour for each room before the downlight is fitted. It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own, so it runs from your ordinary wall switch. As a wired mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download.
