The Polinesia Large is a 645mm ceiling fan light combining a retractable DC motor fan with an integrated tuneable white LED, wrapped in a handwoven brown rope drum shade. The fan blades retract into the central housing when not in use, leaving just the circular rope shade visible as a decorative ceiling light. When the fan is activated via the remote control, the blades extend and rotate to circulate air without disrupting the visual profile of the shade.

Designed for living rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and covered outdoor spaces where ceiling height permits flush or semi-flush mounting, the Polinesia Large combines ambient lighting with functional cooling. The integrated LED produces 4200 lumens and is tuneable from warm white 2700K through to cool white 5000K, controlled via the included remote. The same remote adjusts fan speed and direction, allowing summer cooling and winter circulation modes. The 200mm overall height suits rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above.

The rope shade is built from woven natural-tone fibres wrapped around a metal frame, giving a textural, organic finish that works in coastal, Mediterranean and contemporary rustic interiors. The brown tone of the rope sits between tan and caramel depending on light conditions, pairing with natural wood, rattan and neutral fabrics. The 645mm diameter provides coverage for rooms up to approximately 20m², with the 105W combined LED and motor draw keeping running costs lower than traditional AC motor ceiling fans paired with separate light fittings.

The retractable blade mechanism uses a centrifugal clutch system — when the motor starts, centrifugal force extends the blades outward; when the motor stops, spring tension retracts them back into the housing. This keeps the visual profile clean when the fan is off, unlike fixed-blade designs. The DC motor is quieter than AC equivalents and draws less power at equivalent airflow rates, typically running at under 40dB on low-to-medium speeds.

How does the retractable blade mechanism work?
