Description

The Polar is an 8.2cm diameter surface-mounted downlight with a cylindrical aluminium body finished in matte gold and a white plastic diffuser plate. The GX53 bulb fitting accepts a low-profile LED disc bulb up to 15W (sold separately), which sits behind the diffuser to provide even downward illumination without visible lamp glare.

Designed as accent or task lighting rather than primary room illumination, the Polar suits kitchens, hallways, dressing rooms and retail display areas where ceiling recesses are not available or where surface mounting is preferred over cutting into the ceiling void. The 8.5cm height projects from the ceiling surface and the compact footprint allows multiple units to be spaced evenly across a ceiling plane. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations.

The matte gold finish on the aluminium body provides a warm metallic accent that pairs with brass hardware, warm wood tones and both traditional and contemporary interiors. The surface-mounted installation requires only a ceiling rose connection and two fixing screws through the base plate, making it simpler to fit than recessed downlights and suitable for solid ceilings where cutting recesses is not practical. The GX53 bulb format is lower-profile than standard GU10, allowing the overall height to remain under 9cm.

The Polar uses a GX53 bulb up to 15W. GX53 is a low-profile disc-shaped LED format with a 2-pin twist-and-lock base. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 7-11W and 2700K-3000K.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the Polar is not protected against moisture and must only be used in dry indoor locations. For bathrooms, a downlight with IP44 or higher is required.

Does it need a recessed ceiling void?

No. The Polar is surface-mounted, meaning it fixes directly to the ceiling surface without needing a recessed cavity. This makes it suitable for solid concrete ceilings or installations where cutting into the ceiling is not practical.

How is it installed?
