Description

The Plymouth is a single-arm wall light from Hinkley combining a hand-rubbed old bronze metal frame with a light amber organza shade trimmed in chocolate brown. The curved scroll arm extends from a shaped backplate with cast detailing, holding a candle-style socket topped by a tapered fabric shade. The fitting takes a single E14 bulb up to 40W (sold separately).

Designed for hallways, landings and living room accent lighting, the Plymouth provides soft ambient light where overhead fittings are too bright or where architectural features need highlighting. The 190mm projection from the wall and the 356mm height suit standard residential wall heights of 2.4m, typically fitted 1600-1800mm from floor level to sit comfortably at eye height or just above. The organza shade softens the light throw, avoiding harsh shadows on the wall behind.

The old bronze finish is applied by hand-rubbing, which creates tonal variation across the cast metalwork rather than a uniform factory coating. This gives depth to the scrollwork detail and the shaped backplate edges. The light amber organza is a woven synthetic fabric stretched over a wire frame, with the chocolate brown trim matching the darker tones in the bronze. The 165mm width fits narrow wall spaces including beside doorways and between picture frames.

What bulb does it take?

The Plymouth takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 40W. Most users pair this with a candle-style LED bulb between 3-6W and 2700K for a warm traditional glow through the organza shade. Bulbs are sold separately.

What height should it be fitted at?

In hallways and living rooms, wall lights typically sit 1600-1800mm from floor level to place the light source at or slightly above eye height. For bedside use, 1200-1400mm works better. The 190mm projection from the wall means furniture should sit at least 300mm clear to avoid the shade being knocked.

Can the shade be cleaned?

The organza shade collects dust over time. Vacuum gently using an upholstery brush attachment on low power, or wipe with a barely-damp microfibre cloth. Do not soak the fabric or use chemical cleaners, which can stain the weave or weaken the glue holding the trim.

Is it dimmable?

Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulb chosen. If pairing with a dimmer switch, select a dimmable LED E14 bulb and ensure the dimmer is rated for LED loads. Non-dimmable bulbs will flicker or fail to dim smoothly.
