The glass diffuses a single E27 bulb (sold separately, max 40W) through its faceted surface, casting textured light patterns onto adjacent walls and ground. The IP44 rating provides protection against rain splash and dust ingress, making it suitable for covered porches, verandahs and house-side mounting under eaves.

The lantern mounts on a diamond-quilted backplate that extends 173mm from the wall, positioning the light forward of the building line to illuminate doorways, porch steps and pathway edges. The 356mm height and 152mm width suit entrances, gate posts and porch columns where a decorative accent is needed without dominating the wall. The pearl black finish on the cast aluminium frame provides a low-sheen protective layer that resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments.

The pineapple motif references traditional plantation and colonial exterior lighting, where the fruit symbolised hospitality. Hinkley's version interprets this through the optic glass shape and the leaf-form metalwork above and below the enclosure. The cast detailing on the frame includes banding and texture work that catches daylight and adds depth when the lantern is unlit. What bulb does the Plantation take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional glow through the optic glass.

Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?

The IP44 rating protects against rain splash and dust but is not designed for full weather exposure such as mounting on an unsheltered garden post. It suits covered porches, verandahs, house-side walls under eaves, and similar locations where the fitting has some overhead protection from direct rainfall.

What's the projection from the wall?

The lantern extends 173mm from the wall when mounted, including the backplate and the pineapple glass enclosure. This forward projection helps direct light downwards onto steps and pathways rather than flat against the building.

How is the pearl black finish maintained?

The aluminium frame is powder-coated in pearl black. Wipe periodically with a damp cloth to remove coastal salt, pollen and atmospheric dust. Avoid abrasive cleaners or wire brushes, which can scratch the finish and expose the aluminium underneath.
