Description
This metal trinket box turns a snow-covered cottage into a hiding place for small treasures, with Pinocchio and his black and white kitten Figaro playing in the snow outside the door. Pinocchio wears his yellow hat, red shorts and a blue collar, kicking up one heel while Figaro holds on tight to his hand. The cottage has warm tan walls, teal shutters, a teal front door and a red chimney, with thick white snow heaped along a roof dotted with tiny sparkles. A green sign above the side window reads Geppetto, and gold-coloured trim edges the whole snowy base. It stands 9.3cm high, 13.1cm wide and 12.1cm deep.
It works as two things at once: a small winter scene to set out on display, and a box for the little things that tend to go missing. The section with Pinocchio and Figaro lifts away from the base to open a shallow gold-rimmed compartment, just right for a ring, a pair of earrings or a folded note. The roof lifts off as well, in two snowy sections, to open the cottage itself for a few more keepsakes. For children aged three to twelve it makes a charming keepsake for a bedroom shelf, somewhere to keep small treasures rather than a toy to play with.
The box is made of metal with a glossy painted finish, and gold-coloured edging traces both the base and the lift-off section. Lift the pieces off gently and keep the box on a flat surface, so the little figures and the snowy roof stay in good order. To care for it, dust it with a soft dry cloth, and wipe away any marks with a lightly damp cloth before drying it straight away. As a gift, it is lovely with a small surprise already tucked inside, so the cottage opens to reveal a second present.
