Description

This white ceramic table lamp sets a cone-shaped shade on a tapered wooden base, and it stands 27cm tall and 16.5cm across. The shade is pierced all over with a small geometric pattern of cut-outs, laid over fine ribbed bands that circle the ceramic from top to bottom. Unlit, it reads as a soft, textured white; switched on, the light glows warmly through the ceramic and shines out through every opening, casting a dappled pattern of light around it. The base is a natural light wood with a clear grain, a warm contrast to the crisp white shade it carries.

At 27cm tall, it sits comfortably on a bedside table, a sideboard or a shelf, and its slim base takes up little room. It runs from a standard UK plug at 240V, so all it needs is a socket nearby, and the white flex carries an inline rocker switch, so you can turn it on and off without reaching for the wall. We like it as a soft, low light for the evening, when the pierced pattern comes into its own. The white shade and natural wood sit easily with pale walls, oak furniture and soft neutral schemes, in a bedroom, a living room or a hallway.

The shade is ceramic and the base is wood, a simple pairing with a clean, natural look. To keep it at its best, switch it off and unplug it before cleaning, then dust the shade and base with a soft dry cloth; a lightly damp cloth lifts marks from the ceramic, and the wood is best kept dry. Ceramic can chip if knocked, so give it a steady, level spot away from the edge of the table. Set it beside a few books or a small plant for an easy, lived-in corner, or wrap it as a gift for anyone who loves a softly lit room.
