Description

This Elstead picture light is a small single-lamp fitting in a black finish with a gold internal reflector, designed to mount above artwork, mirrors or photographs. The cylindrical lamp head houses an E14 bulb (sold separately) rated to 40W and projects 200mm from the wall on an adjustable goose-neck arm that allows the light angle to be set precisely once installed.

Designed for smaller artworks up to approximately 600mm wide, the fitting casts focused downward light onto the frame and canvas while minimising glare and spill into the room. The 190mm width of the lamp head suits portrait-orientation paintings, framed prints and photography without overwhelming the wall space above the frame. The black finish on the external housing contrasts with the gold-finished interior reflector, which warms the light output and reduces the harshness of direct bulb exposure.

The square backplate measures approximately 100mm across and fixes to standard wall boxes or directly to plasterboard with appropriate fixings. The goose-neck arm allows 30-40 degrees of vertical adjustment after installation, so the light can be angled to suit different frame depths and wall positions. The combination of black and gold finishes pairs with both traditional gilt frames and contemporary matt-black framing styles.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 40W. For picture lighting, most users choose a warm-white LED bulb between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K to avoid colour-shifting the artwork. Bulbs are sold separately.

What size artwork does it suit?

The 190mm lamp head width works best above artworks up to approximately 600mm wide. For larger pieces a longer picture light or multiple fittings would provide more even illumination across the frame.

Can the light angle be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The goose-neck arm allows approximately 30-40 degrees of vertical adjustment, so you can angle the light to suit the frame depth and wall position once the backplate is fixed.

How is it wired?

The fitting wires to a standard mains supply via the backplate. It can be wired to an existing wall light circuit or switched independently. A qualified electrician should carry out the installation to comply with UK wiring regulations.
