Description

Our Pianopoli is a 15 light ceiling light with a round black steel canopy and a cascade of clear brilliant glass flowers on slim black stems. Each stem ends in a small black dome holding an integrated LED, so there are no separate bulbs to buy. It is 50cm across and 36.5cm high, with the lowest drop at the centre so the cluster narrows towards a point. Each of the 15 lights is rated at 1.8W and gives 240lm of warm white light at 3000K. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in a dry room, never a bathroom or a garden.

We think it suits a dining room, a living room or a bedroom where you want the ceiling light to draw the eye. The glass petals catch the light from the domes and throw small sparkles, while the black finish keeps the outline crisp against a pale ceiling. Because it sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging from a long chain, it brings the sparkle of a chandelier to rooms where the ceiling height would not allow one. Being dimmable, it can drop to a low glow for a quiet evening and come back to full brightness when friends arrive for dinner.

The body is steel in a black finish and the shade is clear brilliant glass, cut into faceted petals that sit in clusters around a little black ball, and the canopy is pierced with tiny holes across its face. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, and as it is dimmable it can be paired with a suitable dimmer switch there. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz, carries energy class E, and the packed weight is 8.5KG. As a light wired into the ceiling, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download.
