Description
The Photonix Small is a 135mm diameter outdoor pedestal light built from extruded and turned aluminium with a soft grey powder-coated finish and a matt white plastic diffuser. The fitting takes a single E27 bulb (sold separately) and carries an IP44 rating, providing protection against water splashes and solid objects larger than 1mm, making it suitable for UK patios, decks, garden paths and driveway edges.
Designed for low-level ambient and marker lighting in outdoor settings, the Photonix works as pathway illumination, deck edge lighting or perimeter lighting around patios and seating areas. The compact 135mm diameter footprint suits narrower paths and confined spaces where larger bollards would obstruct movement. The matt white diffuser softens the light output from the E27 bulb, reducing glare and spreading illumination evenly across the ground.
The aluminium construction resists corrosion in wet outdoor environments, and the powder-coated grey finish hides minor surface marks and weathering better than polished or painted metals. The pedestal stands approximately 65cm tall, positioning the light source at ankle-to-knee height to illuminate ground-level surfaces without spilling upward into sight lines. The E27 socket accepts LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to the wattage limit specified in the technical table, giving control over colour temperature and brightness. The fitting is dimmable when paired with compatible dimmable bulbs and an outdoor-rated dimmer.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against water splashes from any direction and solid objects larger than 1mm. This makes the Photonix suitable for covered and exposed outdoor areas in the UK, including patios, decks and garden paths. It is not submersible and should not be installed in areas that flood or experience standing water.
What bulb should I use?
The fitting takes a standard E27 bulb, sold separately. Most users choose a warm-white LED bulb between 5-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambient lighting. Check the Specification table for the maximum wattage rating before purchasing a bulb.
Can it be dimmed?
Yes, when paired with a dimmable E27 bulb and an outdoor-rated dimmer switch. The fitting itself supports dimming, but the dimming performance depends on the specific bulb and dimmer combination.
How is it installed?
The pedestal light requires a mains outdoor power supply run to the installation point, typically by a qualified electrician. The base mounts to a solid surface such as concrete, paving or decking via fixing points in the foot of the pedestal.
