Description

The Photonix Small is a 650mm outdoor pedestal light built around an extruded aluminium post finished in anthracite powder coating, topped with a 135mm opal white polycarbonate diffuser. The single E27 fitting inside the diffuser accepts standard bulbs up to 60W (sold separately), with the opal material distributing light evenly through 360 degrees around the post.

Designed for pathways, driveways, patios and garden borders where low-level ambient light is needed without light pollution upwards, the Photonix sits at knee height and casts a soft pool of light approximately 1.5-2m diameter around the base. The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashes, making it suitable for exposed UK gardens year-round. The base plate fixes to solid surfaces (paving slabs, concrete, decking) with four screws, and the cable runs through the hollow post to an external junction box.

The anthracite finish is a mid-to-dark grey powder coat that weathers consistently in UV and rain, resisting the chalking and fading common with cheaper finishes. The aluminium construction keeps the weight down to approximately 1.2kg while providing structural rigidity against wind loads. The opal diffuser hides the bulb from view when approaching the light, reducing glare for anyone walking past at night.

What bulb does it take?

The Photonix takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for pathway and garden lighting.

Is it suitable for UK outdoor use year-round?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashes from any direction, and the anthracite powder-coated aluminium resists corrosion in wet UK climates. The post is hollow to allow cable routing and drainage of any condensation.

How is it mounted?

The circular base plate fixes to solid surfaces (paving slabs, concrete, decking) with four screws. The mains cable runs up through the hollow post to the E27 lampholder inside the diffuser, with an external junction box required for connection to outdoor mains supply.

Can it be used with a dimmer?

Yes, provided the bulb you install is dimmable. The fitting itself supports dimming, but the final result depends on pairing a dimmable LED or halogen bulb with a compatible dimmer module in the outdoor circuit.
