Phix 12 Light Chandelier - Black & Brass

The Phix is a 12-light chandelier built around a radial brass frame carrying six pairs of pivoting black metal shades arranged in a double-cone configuration. Each shade houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately) and can be angled independently on installation to direct light upward, downward, or at specific architectural features. The overall diameter of 984mm and the visual mass of twelve shades make this a centrepiece fitting suited to rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above.

Designed for dining rooms, kitchen islands and open-plan living areas where the ceiling height and floor area can accommodate a large-scale fitting, the Phix works as both ambient and directional lighting depending on how the shades are set. The height-adjustable drop ranges from 491mm minimum to 1405mm maximum, allowing the chandelier to be positioned 700-900mm above a dining table in most residential installations. The brass arms radiate from a central sphere, with the black shades creating symmetry and visual rhythm when viewed from below.

The black finish on the shades is a low-sheen powder coat that absorbs ambient light during the day and prevents glare when the bulbs are on. The brass frame carries a natural brushed finish that ages and develops patina over time. The combination of black and brass gives the Phix a mid-century modern character that pairs with walnut furniture, terrazzo, concrete and other materials common to 1950s-60s residential architecture. The fitting weighs approximately 8kg once assembled and requires a ceiling mounting point rated for this load.

Can the shades be adjusted after installation?

Each shade pivots on its brass arm joint, allowing the direction of light to be adjusted during installation. Once set, the shades hold their position through friction. Adjusting them after installation is possible but requires access to the fitting — typically done during bulb replacement.

What bulbs are recommended?

The Phix takes twelve E27 bulbs up to 40W each, sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 4-8W and 2700K for a mid-century aesthetic. Filament-style LED bulbs work well if the shades are angled to reveal the bulb from certain viewing angles.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 984mm diameter and visual mass of twelve shades require a room with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above. For dining table installation, the chandelier typically hangs 700-900mm above the table surface, which works in rooms with 2.7-3.2m ceilings when the drop is adjusted to the minimum 491mm or slightly longer.

Is the brass finish lacquered or will it patina?

The brass carries a natural brushed finish that will develop patina and tonal variation over time when exposed to air and humidity. This is a characteristic of unlacquered brass. If a consistent finish is preferred, the brass can be periodically cleaned with a brass polish, but this is not required for the fitting to function.
