Description
The Philadelphia is a 640mm outdoor wall light housing three E14 bulbs behind champagne-tinted blown glass, suspended from a scrolled old bronze bracket. The lantern head sits below the wall mount on a down-facing arm, casting light downward onto pathways, porch steps and doorway thresholds. The glass is hand-blown and textured, diffusing the bulb filaments into a soft amber wash rather than harsh points of light.
Designed for external walls on period-style homes, Victorian conversions and heritage properties, the fitting carries an IP44 rating against rain and dust, making it suitable for exposed positions under eaves, on gate piers and beside entrance doors. The 310mm projection from the wall gives clearance for the full lantern assembly without the bracket extending far from the mounting surface. The old bronze finish is a patinated dark brown with copper undertones, aged to match traditional wrought ironwork.
The lantern housing shows cast relief detail around the crown, mid-body and base, with scrolled acanthus leaf forms on the bracket and wall plate. The metalwork is die-cast aluminium rather than solid iron, reducing the overall weight to approximately 3.2kg while retaining the appearance of heavier period fittings. The champagne glass tone warms the light output from cool-white LED bulbs, though the fitting also accepts halogen or filament E14 candles up to 60W each.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does it take?
Three E14 small Edison screw bulbs, maximum 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit 4-6W LED candles in warm white (2700K) to complement the champagne glass tone.
Can it be used on a fully exposed wall?
The IP44 rating protects against rain and dust, making it suitable for exposed positions under eaves, on gate piers and beside entrance doors. For fully unsheltered locations subject to driving rain, consider mounting under a small porch canopy or soffit overhang.
How is it mounted?
The wall plate fixes to a standard external wall with two screws (typically Rawlplugs in masonry). The electrical connection is made inside the wall plate before the bracket and lantern assembly is clipped into position. Professional installation is recommended for outdoor electrical fittings.
Does the old bronze finish tarnish or fade?
The patinated old bronze finish is factory-applied and sealed. Normal weathering may deepen the patina slightly over time, but the coating is designed to resist fading, flaking and corrosion for the duration of the 3-year warranty period and beyond.
