Description

The Pauline is an 82mm diameter surface-mounted downlight with a cylindrical black aluminium body and a recessed acrylic diffuser. The fitting takes a single GX53 bulb (sold separately) rated up to 15W on 220-240V mains. The acrylic diffuser sits below the aluminium drum, dispersing light downwards while concealing the bulb from direct view.

Designed for rooms where recessed downlights cannot be fitted due to shallow ceiling voids or concrete construction, the Pauline mounts directly onto the ceiling surface with a 70mm projection. The IP44 rating allows installation in bathrooms (zones 2 and 3), kitchens above worktops, covered outdoor areas and entrance porches where moisture is present but not direct water jets. The compact 82mm footprint suits narrow hallways, shower rooms and WC compartments where larger surface fittings would visually dominate.

The black powder-coated aluminium body provides a contemporary industrial accent that pairs with matt black switches, handles and taps. The cylindrical form casts a defined pool of downward light without spill onto surrounding ceiling surfaces, making it useful for zoning light within open-plan spaces or highlighting kitchen worktops. What bulb does the Pauline take?

The fitting takes a GX53 bulb up to 15W. GX53 is a compact two-pin LED base, shallower than GU10. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose a warm-white LED between 7-9W and 2700K-3000K.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP44 rating allows installation in bathroom zones 2 and 3 (outside the shower cubicle but within the bathroom room volume). It is not rated for zone 1 (directly above a bath or inside a shower cubicle).

Why choose surface-mounted over recessed?

Surface-mounted downlights work where ceiling voids are too shallow for recessed fittings, or where the ceiling is solid concrete with no void. The 70mm projection is visible but allows downlight functionality without cutting into the ceiling structure.

How is the bulb accessed for replacement?

The acrylic diffuser typically unscrews or unclips from the aluminium body, allowing access to the GX53 bulb. The bulb is a quarter-turn bayonet fit into the lamp holder.
