Description

Paris is a table lamp in white and black. A wide white pleated shade, folded from stiff paper and gathered at a small collar on top, opening out to a broad skirt whose rim is cut in a row of sharp points. A band of narrow slots is cut round the shade just above the rim, so light escapes sideways in a fine dotted line. The shade sits on a slim black stem that rises from a low round black base with a stepped edge and a small brass collar. There is no flex, so the lamp is meant to be carried. It measures 22cm across and 28cm tall, in metal, PVC and oak wood.

It is a lamp for a side table, a desk or a bedside, close enough to reach the switch from where you sit, and it lights the surface it stands on rather than the whole room. A pair either side of a bed or a sofa reads as deliberate where one alone reads as an afterthought, and two smaller lamps light a room more evenly than one large one.

The LED is built in at 2.5W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. It carries an E energy label. It runs on a 4000mAh battery, so it can be carried from room to room.

Do I need to buy a bulb?

No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.

What happens when the LED fails?

The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 2.5W and normal domestic use that is many years away.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
