Description
The Knightsbridge outdoor wall lantern is a 200mm-high box-frame fitting built from 304 stainless steel in a brushed chrome finish, with clear glass panels on three sides and an open bottom. A single E27 bulb holder sits inside the frame, protected by the glass but visible from all angles. The IP23 rating means the fitting protects against dripping water from above and small solid objects, making it suitable for covered outdoor positions such as porches, front door canopies and carports.
Designed for mounting on external walls where some shelter exists overhead, the lantern projects 150mm from the wall and requires a standard UK back box for wiring. The fitting is not weatherproof enough for fully exposed positions without overhead cover — IP23 protects against dripping but not driving rain or submersion. Inside covered porches, entrance hallways with exterior-facing walls, and garage doorways it provides accent lighting and wayfinding without exposing the bulb directly to the elements.
The brushed chrome finish on the 304 stainless steel resists corrosion better than mild steel or aluminium in outdoor applications, and the brushed texture reduces fingerprint visibility during bulb changes. The clear glass allows the full bulb shape to be visible, so pairing the fitting with a vintage-style filament LED bulb or a simple globe bulb defines the character of the light. The 40W maximum rating suits standard E27 LED bulbs between 4-8W, which provide sufficient light for a doorway without overpowering a porch.

Frequently Asked
What does IP23 mean for outdoor use?
IP23 protects against dripping water from above and small solid objects, but not driving rain or submersion. This fitting is suitable for covered outdoor positions such as porches, front door canopies and carports where there is overhead shelter. It is not suitable for fully exposed walls without cover.
What bulb does it take?
The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 4-8W LED bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K). The clear glass shows the full bulb shape, so vintage filament bulbs are a popular choice.
Is it dimmable?
Dimming depends on the bulb you install. If you use a dimmable LED bulb and a compatible dimmer switch, the fitting will dim. Non-dimmable LED bulbs will not dim regardless of the switch.
How is it mounted?
The lantern mounts to a standard UK back box on the wall and projects 150mm from the wall face once installed. The back plate covers the box and the wiring is concealed inside the fitting. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
