Description

The Knightsbridge LANT1BKP is an outdoor LED wall lantern with an integrated photocell daylight sensor and manual override, housed in a black polycarbonate traditional lantern-style housing. The 8W integrated LED produces 555 lumens at 4000K cool white, and the photocell automatically switches the light on at dusk and off at dawn without manual intervention.

Designed for front doors, porches, driveways, garage entrances and patio walls, the lantern mounts on an external wall with a standard back box and provides corrosion-resistant outdoor lighting where mains wiring is already in place. The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for exposed positions under eaves or in covered entrance areas. The 315-degree beam angle casts light in a wide arc from the wall, illuminating pathways and doorsteps.

The polycarbonate construction resists impact and UV degradation better than glass or acrylic, and requires no painting or protective coating over time. The opal diffuser inside the lantern softens the LED output to reduce glare while maintaining brightness. The photocell sensor sits behind the diffuser and can be overridden manually via the internal switch if continuous operation is needed, making the lantern functional for both automatic dusk-to-dawn operation and constant-on use during winter months.

The 375mm height and 230mm projection suit standard UK semi-detached and terraced house entrance walls, where the lantern sits proportionally between a door frame and a boundary fence. The Class II double-insulated construction means no earth wire is required during installation, simplifying retrofit wiring in older properties.

How does the photocell sensor work?

The integrated photocell detects ambient light levels and automatically switches the lantern on at dusk and off at dawn. A manual override switch inside the fitting allows you to disable the sensor and run the light continuously if needed.

What does the IP54 rating mean?

IP54 means the lantern is protected against dust ingress (limited entry, but not enough to interfere with operation) and water splashes from any direction. It is suitable for covered outdoor positions such as porches, under eaves, or garage entrances, but not for fully exposed positions subject to heavy rain or submersion.

Can the LED be replaced?

No. The LED is integrated into the fitting and not user-replaceable. The L70B50 rating of 60,000 hours indicates the LED will maintain at least 70% of its original brightness after approximately 7 years of continuous use, or significantly longer under typical dusk-to-dawn operation.

Is this suitable for a bathroom or wet room?

No. The IP54 rating is for outdoor splash protection, not for bathroom zones where higher IP ratings (IP65 or above) are required for direct water jets and steam exposure. Use this lantern outdoors only.
