The Schuller Orbes is a 13-light cluster pendant built around thirteen individual glass and polycarbonate spheres, each banded with a ring of either copper, satin brass or black chrome. The globes suspend on black cables from an 80cm-diameter matt black ceiling canopy, creating a cascading column of light that extends up to 2.5m below the ceiling. An integrated 108W LED system running at 3000K warm white is built into the spheres, with TRIAC dimming control via a radio remote handset.

Designed for double-height entrance halls, stairwells and open-plan living spaces with ceiling heights of 3.5m or above, the Orbes uses vertical drop to fill tall volumes without requiring multiple fittings. The mixed-metal banding across the thirteen globes prevents the piece from reading as a single homogenous mass, introducing tonal variation that catches different angles of ambient daylight and evening illumination. The remote control allows brightness adjustment without needing to wire a dimmer switch into the circuit.

Each sphere combines smoked polycarbonate and marbled glass sections, with the LED positioned inside the polycarbonate half to diffuse light through both materials. The black canopy integrates gravity toggles that allow the fitting to be installed on vaulted or angled ceilings without the globes hanging off-axis. At 15.4kg total weight, the Orbes requires ceiling joists or a reinforced fixing point capable of supporting the load — a standard plasterboard ceiling rose will not hold this fitting safely.

The IP20 rating limits the Orbes to dry indoor environments. The 108W combined LED output delivers 5,030 lumens across all thirteen globes, roughly equivalent to thirteen separate 8W LED bulbs but controlled as a single dimmed circuit. The TRIAC driver is compatible with most UK household electrical systems and does not require additional transformer hardware beyond what's integrated into the canopy.

Is the Orbes dimmable?

Yes. The integrated LED includes a TRIAC driver and ships with a radio remote handset for dimming control. No additional dimmer switch is required in the circuit.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 2.5m drop is fixed, so the fitting works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 3.5m or above. Lower ceilings would place the bottom globes too close to head height in circulation areas.

Can it be installed on a sloped ceiling?

Yes. The canopy integrates gravity toggles that allow the fitting to hang vertically even when the ceiling is vaulted or angled. The toggles self-adjust to keep the globes plumb.

What weight rating does the ceiling fixing need?

The fitting weighs 15.4kg. It must be fixed directly to a ceiling joist or a reinforced mounting point rated for at least 20kg. A standard plasterboard ceiling rose will not support this weight safely.
