Description

The Orb is a 670mm table lamp built around a clear glass teardrop-shaped base, a brushed nickel centre column and a 360mm-diameter beige drum shade. The glass base is hand-blown and weighted at the bottom, giving the lamp a low centre of gravity despite the height. A single E27 bulb sits inside the shade, casting light both upwards through the open top and downwards through the beige fabric diffuser.

Designed for bedside tables, side tables in living rooms and desks in home offices, the lamp provides ambient and task light depending on bulb choice. The clear glass base lets light from the bulb pass through to the surface below, creating a secondary pool of light on the tabletop or shelf. The beige shade softens the output and reduces glare, making the lamp suitable for reading positions next to a bed or armchair. The brushed nickel metalwork between base and shade adds a warm metallic accent without competing with the glass.

The teardrop profile of the glass base gives the lamp a larger visual presence than its 360mm width suggests, so it works best on surfaces of at least 450mm depth to avoid overhang. The combined glass, metal and fabric construction weighs approximately 2.5kg, providing stability on most surfaces without needing additional ballast. The open-top drum shade allows heat from the bulb to vent upwards, making the lamp compatible with halogen and LED bulbs up to the 60W maximum rating.

Is the glass base hollow or solid?

The glass base is hollow and hand-blown, weighted at the bottom to lower the centre of gravity. Light from the bulb passes through the clear glass and illuminates the surface below the lamp.

Can the shade be removed for cleaning?

Yes. The beige drum shade lifts off the metal harp assembly for dusting or replacing the bulb. The shade fabric can be brushed gently with a soft brush or vacuumed on low power to remove dust.

What surface depth is needed?

The 360mm-wide shade and teardrop glass base require a surface depth of at least 450mm to avoid overhang. Narrower surfaces may work if the lamp is positioned with the base against the wall and the shade projecting forward.
