Description

The Opaz is a 5-light cluster pendant with five graduated smoked glass globes suspended from a 480mm matt black circular canopy on height-adjustable cables. Each globe is hand-blown from smoke-tinted glass that fades from deep charcoal at the base to translucent grey at the top, creating tonal gradation when lit. The five E27 lampholders sit inside the globes, with bulbs sold separately.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and entrance halls, the Opaz allows cables to be individually adjusted between 90cm and 180cm drop, letting you configure the globes as a tight cluster, a cascading spiral, or a staggered vertical arrangement depending on ceiling height and the width of the surface below. The canopy fits standard UK ceiling roses and houses the cable-locking mechanism that holds each globe at its set height without visible fixings on the exterior.

The smoked glass finish diffuses warm light from filament-style LED bulbs while maintaining enough transparency to show the bulb shape inside the globe, giving a layered depth when viewed from different angles. The matt black canopy and cable sleeves reduce visual weight at the ceiling line and pair with both warm-toned and cooler contemporary interiors. At 3.75kg total weight, the pendant requires a ceiling joist or suitable fixing capable of supporting the combined mass of glass, metalwork and five bulbs.

The Opaz ships from Schuller's Spanish manufacturing base and carries IP20 rating for dry indoor use only. The Class 1 electrical specification requires an earth connection during installation. Each globe measures approximately 160-200mm diameter depending on position in the graduated set, with the largest globe at the lowest point and the smallest at the top of the cluster when arranged in cascade configuration.

Are the cable drops adjustable after installation?

Yes. Each of the five cables has an individual locking mechanism inside the canopy that can be released to adjust drop height between 90cm and 180cm. This allows you to reconfigure the cluster arrangement without rewiring.

What bulbs work best with smoked glass?

The smoked glass diffuses light while remaining translucent enough to show the bulb shape. Warm white LED filament bulbs in the 2200K-2700K range complement the grey-charcoal tones of the glass. Standard Edison-style E27 bulbs up to 20W per fitting are recommended.

Can this be used on a sloped ceiling?

The canopy is designed for horizontal ceiling mounting. On sloped ceilings the cables will hang vertically from the canopy, which may create an off-centre visual effect depending on the slope angle. Confirm ceiling configuration with your installer before ordering.

What ceiling height is needed?

For dining table use, allow 700-800mm between the lowest globe and the table surface, which typically requires a ceiling height of 2.4m or above when cables are set to minimum drop. For entrance halls or living spaces where the pendant hangs above floor level, ceiling heights of 2.7m or more work best when using the full 180cm cable extension.
