Norfolk 1 Light Outdoor Pedestal Light - Black

The Norfolk is a 440mm outdoor pedestal light built around a black die-cast aluminium frame with four hand-leaded glass panels. Each panel is assembled from five individual pieces of glass held in traditional lead came, creating a diamond lattice pattern that diffuses light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately) inside the lantern chamber. The glass panes are clear with a subtle ripple texture, visible when unlit and more pronounced when the bulb is on.

Designed for mounting on gate posts, low garden walls, driveway pillars and pathway edges, the Norfolk sits on a black powder-coated pedestal base with a footplate for fixing to flat horizontal surfaces. The IP44 rating means the fitting is protected against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for fully exposed outdoor locations in the UK climate. The 184mm square footprint suits standard brick pier caps and precast concrete post tops.

The hand-leaded construction gives each Norfolk pedestal a slightly different character depending on how the individual glass pieces are cut and positioned during assembly. The black finish is a fine-texture powder coat over die-cast aluminium, which resists corrosion better than painted steel equivalents. At 440mm height the lantern head sits below typical gate post cap height, allowing the light to wash down onto pathways rather than project horizontally into neighbouring properties.

What IP rating does the Norfolk carry?

The Norfolk is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against solid objects greater than 1mm and splashing water from any direction. This makes it suitable for fully exposed outdoor installation including driveways, garden gates and pathway edges.

What bulb does it require?

The fitting takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb at 2700K for soft outdoor ambience.

How is the pedestal mounted?

The base has a flat footplate with fixing holes for screwing directly to a horizontal surface such as a gate post cap, brick pier top or precast concrete post. The 184mm square footplate suits standard UK post cap dimensions.

Is the glass replaceable if damaged?

The hand-leaded glass panels are held in a metal frame that can be disassembled if a panel is cracked or broken. Replacement glass panels are not stocked as standard parts but can be commissioned through specialist glass suppliers or directly from Elstead Lighting.
