Description
The Knightsbridge EMTWINST is a non-maintained emergency twin-spot fitting with two independently adjustable 3W LED lamp heads mounted on a white polycarbonate control unit. The fitting activates automatically during mains power failure, providing 490lm of 6000K daylight-white light across an 80° beam angle for up to 3 hours. An integral self-test facility runs periodic diagnostic checks on the battery and circuitry at pre-programmed intervals, indicated by green LEDs on the control panel.
Rated IP65, the fitting is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation where emergency egress lighting is required in environments exposed to dust and water ingress — including covered external walkways, loading bays, car parks, warehouses, and plant rooms. The twin adjustable heads allow light to be directed onto two separate zones, such as an exit route and a hazard point, from a single installation point. The polycarbonate construction resists impact and UV degradation while keeping the unit lightweight at under 2kg.
Non-maintained operation means the LEDs remain off during normal mains supply and only illuminate when mains power is lost, making this fitting appropriate for buildings where separate maintained lighting provides normal illumination. The prismatic diffusers on each lamp head spread the 490lm output evenly, reducing glare whilst maintaining visibility at floor level. The Class II double-insulated design eliminates the need for an earth connection, simplifying installation on non-metallic surfaces.

Frequently Asked
What does non-maintained operation mean?
Non-maintained emergency lights remain off during normal mains supply and only activate when mains power is lost. This differs from maintained emergency lights, which are permanently on. Non-maintained operation is standard for commercial and industrial buildings where separate general lighting provides normal illumination.
What is the self-test facility?
The integral self-test system automatically checks the battery charge level, LED function and circuitry at pre-programmed intervals. Green indicator LEDs on the control panel confirm the unit is functioning correctly. This reduces the need for manual testing and ensures compliance with BS 5266 emergency lighting standards.
Can the lamp heads be adjusted independently?
Yes. Both LED spotlights pivot on ball-joint mounts, allowing each head to be angled independently to illuminate different zones — such as an exit route and a hazard point — from a single installation.
Is it suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The IP65 rating protects against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction, making the fitting suitable for covered outdoor areas such as external walkways, loading bays and car parks. It should not be installed in locations with direct exposure to heavy rain or submersion.
