Description

This metal trinket box takes the shape of Noah's Ark, riding a curl of blue and white waves with a dolphin leaping from the spray. The hull is a warm orange, the cabin above it has a red roof, and gold-coloured trim runs along the top edge of the boat, set with a row of clear stones. Animals peer out from every corner: a pair of giraffes stretch up from the top deck, a zebra and a lion lean over the side, an elephant looks out from below the cabin, and small faces watch from the windows. It stands 8.5cm tall, 7cm wide and 4cm deep, small enough to sit in the palm of your hand yet full of detail.

Because it is so compact, it settles happily on a dressing table, a bedside table, a bookshelf or a mantelpiece, and it looks just as good among other small treasures in a glass cabinet. Inside there is room for a ring, a pair of earrings, a spare button or a tiny folded note, kept safe and close at hand. We think it suits anyone who loves the old story of the ark and its animals two by two, or anyone who simply enjoys a cheerful piece with plenty to look at.

The whole ark is made of metal, and the top half lifts open on a small hinge at one end of the boat to reveal a smooth white interior in both halves. The upper deck, with its cabin and animals, forms the lid, while the hull and waves form the base, which rests flat on a shelf or table. To keep the colours bright, dust it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water. Wrapped in tissue, it makes a thoughtful gift for someone who treasures small things, with a pleasing surprise waiting when they lift the lid.
