Description
This shaped earthenware mug turns Oogie Boogie, the stitched villain of The Nightmare Before Christmas, into a cup you can actually drink from. The whole body is modelled as his face, glazed in a pale sage green with two black almond eyes and a wide, stitched grin. Inside that grin is a black mouth crowded with raised pink worms, and dark cross stitches run up the side towards the handle. The back is left plain green with a soft brushed look to the glaze, and the inside is a pale cream. It stands 10.5cm tall, 13.5cm wide and 9cm deep, and holds 400ml.
At 400ml it holds a generous brew of tea, coffee or hot chocolate, so it works as an everyday cup rather than something kept only for show. It suits a kitchen worktop, a desk at home or a bedside table, and between drinks it sits happily on a shelf as a piece of film decor. Held in the right hand, the face looks out across the room, so whoever sits opposite gets the full grin while you drink. The body is chunky and rounded, with a solid loop handle, and it brings a bit of mischief to an ordinary morning.
The mug is made from earthenware, a ceramic finished with a smooth glaze over the sculpted face, eyes, mouth and worms. The relief gives the front plenty of texture, so we'd suggest washing it by hand in warm soapy water, using a soft brush to reach into the grin, then drying it well. Between uses on a shelf, a soft dry cloth keeps the dust off. Pair it with a favourite tea or a bag of good coffee and it makes a fun, ready-to-use gift, or set it out on the desk as a small daily nod to the film.
