Newbury Outdoor 3 Light Flush Ceiling Light - Lacquered Aged Copper

The Newbury is a flush-mounted outdoor ceiling light with three E14 bulb holders housed inside a hexagonal lantern frame made from lacquered aged copper and clear bevelled glass panels. The 365mm-wide fixture sits 190mm down from the ceiling, providing porch lighting, covered patio illumination or entryway light where ceiling height is limited and a pendant would hang too low.

Designed for covered outdoor areas with IP44 protection against dust and rain splash, the Newbury suits traditional, colonial and farmhouse exteriors where period-style detailing is preferred. The aged copper finish gives a weathered, pre-patinated appearance straight from installation, avoiding the visual discontinuity of bright new copper turning gradually darker over time. The bevelled glass panels diffuse light from the three bulbs while remaining clear enough to show the internal structure of the fitting.

Each of the three E14 bulb holders accepts candle-style bulbs up to 60W, giving flexibility to choose filament, LED or halogen lamps depending on preferred colour temperature and brightness. The lacquered copper finish is sealed to slow further oxidisation, maintaining the aged appearance rather than continuing to darken. The hexagonal profile and pointed finial beneath the fitting give the lantern a formal symmetry that pairs well with Georgian, Victorian and American colonial architecture.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm (dust and small debris) and water splashing from any direction. The Newbury is suitable for covered outdoor areas such as porches, canopies and pergolas where it is shielded from direct rainfall, but not for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or hosing down.

What bulbs does it take?

The Newbury takes three E14 (small Edison screw) candle-style bulbs, each up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for traditional outdoor illumination that matches the aged copper finish.

Will the copper finish continue to darken over time?

The lacquer coating slows further oxidisation, so the aged copper appearance should remain relatively stable. Some gradual darkening may occur in coastal or high-humidity environments where salt or moisture penetrates the lacquer, but the change will be slower than unlacquered copper.

What ceiling height does it suit?

At 190mm projection from the ceiling, the Newbury works in covered outdoor areas with ceiling heights from 2.2m upwards. Lower ceilings may leave insufficient headroom beneath the pointed finial, while very high ceilings would make the fixture appear undersized unless paired with additional wall-mounted lanterns.
